I finally had time to look at the new Sonris system. Here is what I found.
Input from a friend:
“Its APEX which is Oracle's reporting tool. We actually just moved off of it at work because it was so bad and ancient. We have API backends in our system, but I don't see any in theirs, but give me a few minutes tomorrow when I have some time and I'll see what I can figure out.
APEX does have a pretty predictable structure that generally allows for easily deriving what the hyperlinks should be. (And uses GET based commands which means that the variables are in the URL.) That seems to be the case with this report (such as below.) So worst case, we can do that.
For example Well Serial Number 123456 is https://sonlite.dnr.state.la.us/ords/r/sonris_pub/sonris_data_porta...[ig_master]_well_serial_num=123456
That should work for base data, but it appears that the document repos have checksums which are a little more challenging to directly link to."
Note: API stands for Application Programing Interface.
While I can’t speak to the Federal requirements it appears relatively easy to write bots for this. I appears the main reason they did this is to move to a system that does not need much programing. It is getting hard to find programmers that can program in the old languages such as COBOL and FORTAN as nobody teaches this any more (Pay is now $100-150K). APEX is mainly just configure it out of the box little programing needed. The down side is there is little that can be easily be changed without APIs.
I went through a similar SAP conversion before I retired. We spent hours in meetings being told this is you how you will do your job in the future. Hundreds of people working on this. Millions spent. They put HR, Accounting and the Mill order entry system on it. All departments had to add people to do the same job. They finally abandoned adding the converting plants after the schedule slipped by two years. All those responsible for this either quit or were fired.
Other notable conversions:
Hershey’s Chocolate – Lost millions after conversion. Could not ship product from warehouse in fourth quarter.
Conrail – Freight division – After conversion lost ability to deliver boxcars to some plants. They Actually had to load the freight from a remote siding outside the system into trucks and have the trucks deliver it. Took several months to resolve.
If I get any more feedback I will post it.

That time has come. I have asked her for a tutorial on what I think are the most popular searches for GHS.com members.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
