Yes, I hope they don't just ramrod bills through congress for the sake of getting them through because they have the votes now that they may not have after the mid term elections in 2110.
Don't bet on it, all you will hear is that the republicans do not have a better plan.
We'd be better off doing nothing rather than do what the democrats are proposing. I'm still going to need to run the AC in the summer time regardless what they do and would not like having to pay through the nose to do so.
Actually, once I upgraded some of the mechanicals around my house (H/AC, hot water heater, appliances), my electric bill went down, most dramatically when I replaced H/AC. The cost of replacing & upgrading gets offset by the savings, then you continue to save. :0)
PG, any approach to reduce CO2 emissions and shift to alternative energy sources will result in higher consumer costs.
Now is not the right time to be raising any costs to consumers. It's irritating to watch congress trying to do just that!
PG, if there is an upside it will take until 2015 to begin implementation and will ramp up over time.
You really believe that knowing how disparate they are for money right now?
It's going to take awhile for some research, development & demonstration projects, like the one for the gulf gas hydrates project, to be completed & implemented. The list of announcements for grant proposals is a long one, there's still a lot of work going on to figure out some of these ideas.

PG, yes I do. Much of the policy does not even involve collection of "taxes". Significant sections involve improvement in energy efficiency for buildings, homes & automobiles. There are also policies for low carbon fuels for transportation and increased use of renewables for power generation. None of these segments generate any taxes for the government.

In the early years most CO2 emission allowances will be provided at little or no cost. It is only later that allowances reduced in number and auctioned to generate funding for other parts of the program.
Les B. are you long term bullish on natural gas?

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
