This brings me to some questions I have - what does "well potentialed" with a code of 08 mean. Also, why is there a daily measurement when a well is completed, like 12,568MCFD. Also a choke of 20/64. If no regulatory limit could the operator open the choke to 64/64. Is the choke a way of keeping the gas in the ground waiting for higher prices.
Bob, it simply means the operator has filed the Louisiana State Potential Report with the Office of Conservation. The information included in the filing is the initial well production test data (rate, pressure, choke size, etc). Flow rate during this initial 24-hour well test is reported as a daily flow rate (Mcf/Day).
The operator could open the choke to a larger setting but would run the risk of damaging the formation and/or downhole equipment. As the well depletes the operator will gradually open the choke over time as the flowing pressure decreases.
The operator could reduce the choke size as a means of reducing production during low natural gas prices but there has not been indications of this occurring.
Thank for the information, appreciate it.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
