Henry Gas Storage Project

The Henry Gas Storage Project will be located on the uninhabited Cote Blanche Island. Gas storage caverns will be constructed in the Cote Blanch Salt Dome, approximately 2,500 to 5,000 feet below the surface. The island is in close proximity to six existing interstate and two intrastate pipelines and is ideally suited for natural gas storage.

When fully developed, it is anticipated that the Project will consist of four caverns with 11.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas capacity each. Aggregate daily withdrawal and injections rates are designed for up to 2.6 Bcf and 1.0 Bcf, respectively. The Project’s firm and interruptible natural gas storage services will support the increasing energy needs in the Mid-Continent, Southeast, and Northeast regions of the United States.

What is the current timetable on completion of this project? I had heard that many of the regulatory hurdles to be scaled concerning brine mining and construction of such underground salt dome storage facilities have been pushed back several months to a year on many of these types of projects.
I have been told that they are tring to get the permit by Sep. 2009 and be operational by 2012
I do know that there is a big push for these caverns
We currently have 3600 BCF of storage capacity in the US. This one will not add much (less than 50 BCF total) so I wouldn't call it "MAJOR" but it will help. And I wouldn't necessarily call it CNG either, as CNG is thought of in a different light.
