Chesapeake owned natural gas rig claims life of a local man in Caddo Parish early Sunday morning.

It happened early Sunday morning at a Chesapeake-owned site operated by Trinidad Drilling, near the interesection of Graham Road and Mt. Bethel Road just off of Mansfield Road in Keithville.

Caddo Coroner Dr. Todd Thoma confirmed that 25 year old Noe Daniel Falcon died of a head injury while stringing pipe about 60 feet up on the rig itself.

It happened before day break, but Dr. Thoma says it took awhile to get the Thoma down from the platform.

Caddo Sheriff's Office spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says deputies and crime scene investigators are always called to the scene of any fatality, as they were in this case. But, Chadwick says, there was no indication of foul play. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is also expected to investigate.

This is the second fatality on a Chesapeake-owned site this year. 27 year old Jared Maus was killed in a fiery explosion on January 6 while performing maintenance on the equipment at the company's M & M North gas gathering facility on the eastern edge of Barksdale Air Force Base.

KTBS decided that this was local news @ 5:46 PM. Has anyone else noticed that when there is an accident involving Chesapeake that people in New York know about it before the locals do? At first everytime something happened on a Chesapeake well news crews would stand out at the road and take video of fences and cars passing and report every 5 minutes and then Chesapeake donated a few trucks and dogs and all of the sudden they quit reporting until 12 or more hours later

Not that it matters, but you"re being overdramatic concerning the media , to insinuate that CHK has bribed the media is ridiculous, a young man has lost his life lets pray for his soul and his family.

There was a press release before noon today. They couldn't release the victims name or the name of the rig, etc... until the family had been notified.

Probably the MORRELL ETAL 8H #1 well but don't have a rig number.

If Trinidad is drilling the well, then he would be a Trinidad employee and not a Chesapeake employee.

May his soul rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him. Now for the question . . . does the landowner/minerals owner have any liability in such a disaster? Should an owner have liability protection when a pipeline is laid across one's land or when a well is drilled?
