JT. It'll take someone more knowledgeable than me to describe the difference between Status Code 29 - "Dry And Plugged" and Code 30 - "Plugged And Abandoned". As both are abandoned, I think it safe to say the operator did not consider the well's potential commercial. And what was considered non-commercial in the past may not be the same today.
JTG, these codes can cover a lot of different scenarios. A "dry hole" can result from a well not finding any hydrocarbons (oil or gas) or not finding sufficient hydrocarbons to justify the additional cost of completion and other facilities required to produce the well. Recall that some very old wells may have targetted oil and would have been abandoned if only natural gas was encountered. Finally, early logging techniques were not as advanced and some wells would have been D&A that actually may have drilled a hydrocarbon pay zone.

P&A also covers a well that did produce but has since depleted and been abandoned. Finally, some P&A wells may have encountered mechanical problems during drilling or completion. Some of these could potentially be classified as D&A.
Check out serial #239185 in Bienville Driscoll Field. It has already produced a lot of gas from cv horizonatal

The website was the brainchild of Keith Mauck, a landowner and entrepreneur who recognized a pressing need: landowners in the region had little access to…
