Cross Unit Laterals, Negotiating, SONRIS, Mineral Research and More With NARO LA on April 20th

Coming up on Monday, April 20, 2015, the royalty owners educational conference will take place. It's presented by the National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO) - Louisiana Chapter.  The conference will be held at the Eldorado Resort and Casino in downtown Shreveport.

There will be a number of great topics presented throughout the day, all of which are organized with the royalty owner in mind.  As we lead up to the conference, we hope to post details here on GHS about some of the seminar topics.  I look forward to presenting on Cross Unit Lateral (CUL) wells that afternoon.  Some of the CUL topics we hope to go over include:

  • The progression from in-unit laterals to CULs and a few variations that came along in between.
  • The notices received by owners and interested parties when the companies seek approval for CULs.   We will discuss the Pre-Application stage through the time when Orders are issued by the Office of Conservation.
  • Recent legislation which has been filed in Louisiana to address the potential effect of CULs in certain units and Louisiana NARO’s role in that process.
  • Finally, we will talk about how royalty is allocated among owners in each unit affected by the CUL and also go through a sample allocation.

The permits being filed have shown that the CUL is becoming a favored method for companies drilling horizontal wells in existing units, so please join us for this topic and all of the other great segments that will be presented.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
