Jerry,
Selling your mineral rights would be a tiny fraction of what you can earn with royalties. If you do decide to sell speak to an attorney to help you get top dollar. Once you sell that will be the end of your income. The price of natural gas is going up and could easily be $5.00-$6.00 in 4-6 months. Natural gas stocks are strong and gaining. Try to hang in there with your mineral rights. We are all in this together. Go to the web site geology.com and play with the natural gas calculator. You can see the potential for your income. It is fun and will put some optimism into your thinking. Good luck with what ever you decide.
La. leases, but interesting:

Haynesville Star of Lease Sale

The Louisiana Mineral Board held its monthly lease sale Wednesday in Baton Rouge and the Haynesville Shale play was the star of the show.

According to the Mineral Board, more than $12.1 million in bonuses were collected by the state in the sale, bringing the total for the financial year that began Jul. 1 to more than $22.7 million.

The sale ranks as the fifth highest in the past five years -- and up from the $29,000 collected by the state for the September sale.

The board sold 29 leases in nine parishes – Bossier, Bienville, Caddo, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River, Plaquemines, St. Helena and Terrebonne. Of the 29 leases, 23 were in north Louisiana and the remaining six were located in the southern part of the state.

All of the 23 leases in the northern part of the state were sold in the area of the Haynesville -- in Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Natchitoches and Red River parishes. According to the Mineral Board, the 23 Haynesville leases averaged more than $8,300 an acre. For the parishes that have been the primary interest area for the Haynesville Shale, lease price sales averaged about $532 an acre in 2007, and about $252 an acre in 2006.
