Houston-based Endeavour International Corp. has spent $27 million to buy interests in the Haynesville and Marcellus gas shale plays in north Louisiana and east Texas, along with properties in western Pennsylvania, Alabama and Montana.

Altogether, Endeavour has acquired interests in 526,000 acres.

Endeavour acquired 50 percent of Cohort Energy Co.’s interests in 66,000 acres in north Louisiana, east Texas and western Pennsylvania for $15 million. Endeavour could participate in drilling more than 500 horizontal wells over the next 10 to 15 years in the two resource plays, the company reported.

Endeavour now has 17,700 acres in the Haynesville Shale.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
