Evacuations in South Shreveport around well site.-UPDATES

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office reports about 25 homes in south Caddo Parish were evacuated as a precaution Monday morning, after gas vapors were detected at a well site.

Deputies say that vapors were first detected at the drilling rig near the 11,000 block of Norris Ferry Road around 8 p.m. Sunday night. The situation stabilized, but vapors reappeared around 4 a.m. today.

Initially, only a few residents within a 100-yard radius of the well were evacuated, but that area was soon expanded. Roads currently closed include Cypress Garden, Willow Ridge, Debroeck, and Norris Ferry south of Southern Trace.

Go to KSLA 12 for the latest updates.

*Cement crews have controlled the pressure of the well in progress

**The new and latest concerns stem from the fact that the local aquifer has tested positive for natural gas contamination.

Looks like this deal might wind up costing EXCO a little bit of money.

Exco I believe, care to take a guess as to the nature of the problem?
The pictures on TV showed a rig, looks like they may need some heavier mud.
Jay,

Your correct. Well was being drilled. The problems occured at just 1200 ft. They've been attempting to stop the "fumes" for a couple of days with no luck. Not sure if it means anything, but this is a second well, on the same pad as one that Exco has just completed drilling. Also to note, they are in a hurry....lease contract has expired, attempts to renegotiate failed, landowners have production and depth clauses, and the 90 day clock is ticking.
90 day clock shouldn't matter as long as there are continuous operations. I would have to read the lease of course.
I'll get you a copy. I've read it, but it's all just words to me. The original lease was signed with an independant operator, then bought by Camterra, now Exco.
anybody have a serial #?
Thank you Jay.
What would have happened to allow the local aquifer to become contaminted with NG?
Improper casing?
That would sound reasonable, bad casing or improperly set casing. There are three wells on this pad site, two HA and a CV that has been shut in.

Does anyone know which well the rig is now drilling, 240835 or 241116?
I believe it is the 241116.
This will be alot of bad publicity due to the mistakes of a relatively simple operation.
This is certainly not the publicity we need with the EPA itching to get involved, though it does not appear to have anything to do with fracing.
