Can someone with some experience explain to me the sales process for the gas processing industry?  I've got a subscription to DrillingInfo.com but I don't really know what I'm looking for.

The company I work for is focused mostly on the Eagleford and Haynesville shale plays.  They manufacture Gas Processing equipment and have asked me to try and sale some.  The only problem is, I've never worked in Gas Processing.

What should I be looking into on DrillingInfo and who should I be trying to speak with about processing needs?

Anyone with some experience in this please aware me.

Thanks in advance.

Jayson, the first thing I would suggest is to differentiate between "gas processing" and "gas treating".  Most think of gas processing as large centralized plants for natural gas liquids (NGL) removal while gas treating covers dehydration and CO2 & H2S removal.  It would also cover small "dewpoint" units.  I suspect your company sells gas treating equipment.

The Haynesville Shale is a gas treating play as the gas is very "lean" and not worth processing for NGL's.  If DrillingInfo does not list the unit operator, it is of little value.  You can check my Drilling Rig Location Group to identify the most active operators in regard to active drilling rigs.

The Eagle Ford Shale requires both treating and processing so the treating may occur at the gas processing plants.  For both the Eagle Ford and Haynesville you can check the various Oil & Gas company websites to check how active they are in each play.  Just read their most recent corporate presentations.  Use the operators currently drilling in the Haynesville Shale as a starting point as many of these companies are also the most active in the Eagle Ford Shale.  You should also contact the big midstream players like Enterprise, Kinder Morgan, Energy Transfer, Crosstex, Exco, CenterPoint Energy Field Services, Questar, J-W Operating and Copano.
