Can anyone tell about how much a title opinion will cost?
And what is its purpose?

No. A title opinion is just that -- an opinion. Usually it is an opinion offered by an attorney who has reviewed the chain of title of a piece of land. But, as kittycatmama said, the opinion can be wrong.
