Once a unit has been given a hearing, how long until the well is given a permit? Is there any rhyme or reason to the order they give them in? I've read a few different lengths of time, and I am pretty sure that the hearing for our unit was this past mid October. What confuses me is that last week, I saw a well given a permit, but when I checked it out, I discovered that their hearing was AFTER ours. Does that make any sense?

Frank, well permits are completely separate from unit applications, hearings and approvals and somewhat unrelated. Well permits do not require a hearing and typically do not require as much time.

Normally operators will permit wells after the unit is approved but is not uncommon to apply for and obtain a well permit prior to the unit approval. The operator may just wait until after unit approval to drill and/or complete the well.
I guess I'd been thinking that the paperwork I'd received a ways back (unit application?) was basically a well permit application and that we had to just wait. Does that mean the operator has to now apply for a well permit separately? Will I receive notification of that, like I did with the unit application? Thanks.
Frank, the operator is not required to provide any notification regarding well permits so you will just have to check Sonris (Louisiana) or the Texas RRC website. If you are in Louisiana, you can provide the Section-Township-Range and I could check for a well permit.
Hey, Les. Thanks. I've been trying to learn how to use SONRIS, but any help is appreciated. It's Sec4-17N-!6W and Sec33-18N-16W.
Frank, unfortunately there has been very limited drilling activity in your area and no well permits in your sections.
