O.K. folks, here goes. This discussion is not even closely related to the shale, but it is related to GHS. You see this post is about a family member and I consider all the good people on GHS part of my family now.

Lauren Shirley is our next door neighbor. Lauren was diagnosed with Wilm's cancer ( a rare pediatric cancer) when she was a baby. She was in remission until June 2006 when the cancer returned. She is a few years older than my daughter so she has been the big sister my daughter never had. I could never ask for better neighbors than Lauren and her family. Lauren has spent most of her time between Logansport, IN with her Mom and Rockford, IL with her Dad.

Lauren has always been a bright spot in our lives and our neighborhood and we miss her being around immensely. Her hospital is in Indiana. Our thoughts and prayers have been her and the Shirley family since she was diagnosed with Wilm's.

Lauren's Dad (Glenn) has been in contact with us to keep us posted throughout the ordeal and we appreciate it greatly. Glenn called today to let me know Lauren now has a blog site. The site was started by Lauren's aunt and she has done an amazing job. I now invite you all to view Lauren's site and perhaps say a prayer or two for Lauren and her family. Perhaps a note of encouragement to Lauren and her family. Donations are of course greatly appreciated as well. Donation info is on the site.

I thank the entire GHS family for your time and your prayers. God Bless you all! Cannie

Cannie,
I will certainly add Lauren to my prayer list. I don't understand why children have to suffer. It is one of the questions that I will ask the Lord when I get to Heaven. Lauren is a beautiful young woman and I hate to hear of one so young being desparately ill. Her family is lucky to have friends like you and your family. Because she is your friend, she is now my friend. Please keep us posted and let her know that her friends in Louisiana are thinking about her and sending up lots of prayers.
Thanks Cathaus. I assure you, we all look to her as inspiration. Our day to day existence just isn't so bad. She is VERY brave and a fighter. Thanks again. Cannie
Thanks, Cannie, for that resounding reminder for a reality check. I'll be keeping her in my prayers.
Thanks, sesport.
Another horrendous reminder to us that life isnt always fair.
But how wonderful it can be, when we have friends that love and care about each other.
Thank you for introducing us to this inspirational young lady.
I will gladly place this newest "family member" on our prayer list at church.

It is with great sadness and sorrow that I have to write this post. Today, 15 March, 2009 around noon Our Hero, Lauren Ashley Shirley passed away in Indiana. On behalf of the Shirley family, our family, friends and neighbors, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the GHS family who showed Lauren and the Shirley family much love through their prayers and donations. The Shirleys will not forget you all. Neither shall I.

God Bless all of you! Thank you, Cannie
Oh Cannie, I am so sorry. I grieve for Lauren's family but more so, I grieve for Caroline. Please give her a kiss from me and tell her that I care.
Even at my age, death remains a mystery. We know that we must all face it one day but for sweet Lauren, it came much too soon. The comfort that we take now is that Lauren is perfect. She has her heavenly body and will never again know pain.
The world was a better place with her in it. Her loss will ever be felt, even by those of us that knew her only through her pictures and by the amazing friends and their kind words about her. She was blessed to have known your sweet family.
Gone but a very short distance, right into the hearts of all who knew you. Even hearts that you didnt know.
May God almighty bring comfort to this family, as only He can.
