What kind of changes in mfg of the rigs will be needed to switch to lng on the rigs?

KOH, basically any electric drive grilling rig can be adapted by replacing the diesel generators with natural gas generators and adding an LNG storage tank.

Sesport, the primary issue is availability and reliabaility of LNG supply.  Because drilling rigs are mobile there is no assurance of LNG access across the various development plays.  EnCana was able to contract for a current LNG supply available in the Southeastern region from Pivotal LNG.

 

There are some conversion costs including the LNG storage tank, but could probably pay out in a reasonable period of time based on the savings.

That makes all the sense in the world.  Every operator should be running their rigs and trucks on LNG and CNG.  That might be just the catalyst to further promote the build out the fuel infrastructure. 

The key to solving America's energy problem is natural gas.  I've not heard any candidate voice this.  What could the President do?  (1) Immediately start using CNG/LNG government vehicles (2) Provide tax incentives for infrastructure build-out (3) get rid of red tape pertaining to LNG export facilities and (4) Provide incentives for GTL (gas-to-liquids) r&d and production.  The only answers I keep hearing are (1) approve the Keystone Pipeline (2) open up federal lands for more drilling and (3) "turn back on" the rigs in the gulf.  Idiots.  Do a little research.

Sesport, US red tape is the issue - not the cost.

 

Canada already has excess gas supplies so delivering to them would just be for liquefaction and export.  It is more efficient for the US to just to export directly.

How much do you estimate it cost to convert from street cars to busses back in 40's ?

 

It was done almost overnight..the street cars ran on electricity. 

My dad's theory was that the bunch that owned the tire companies needed a market after the war.  Street cars didn't use rubber tires.  So ...get rid of the streetcars, sell zillions of tires to towns across America.

It was done with no worry about costs of conversion.

Also our town had brick streets.  NEVER a pothole.  But they were dug up and relaid with asphalt.  There are some of the old brick streets still strong under the gunk.

So my point is...if there's someone in power out there who owns the stock in the company that does the conversions and can profit and control the NG market it will happen almost overnight.

But remember..we have a leader in office who is determined that we continue to send our dollars to the Mid East and remain dependent on their oil supplies.  Go Figure.

Oh and from his own mouth, just like the night I heard him say "my muslim faith"  and was corrected..on an open  mic he promises a foreign diplomat that he will essentially "play ball" with them after the election. 

So follow the money, follow the power and you can figure how this NG thing will go.

Hey sesport, will you start a new discussion using the link you posted above?  There is enough information contained in the charts and graphs that would make even the ill-informed do a double take.

I liked the graph showing that oil is cheaper now than it was in 1862!  Imagine that, no cars or planes and high gas prices.......or maybe the high price was due to the start-up of an new industry.  I bet the wood, coal, and whale people of the day were ranting and raving, just as loud as some folks today.

sesport, I didn't want to "step on your toes" by taking your information/idea, but I'll feel free next time.

Yes, all the rhetoric out there is out there for one purpose, rile the misinformed masses.  They'll get on sites such as GHS and reproduce the slamming message.

Along the corset line, I sure the whalers were well aware of their shrinking profession.  They even knew you couldn't expect things to last forever.
