The Louisiana Energy Gateway (LEG) pipeline is a 1.8 billion cubic feet per day natural gas gathering system developed by Williams. Stretching 174 miles from East Texas/the Haynesville basin to the Gulf Coast, it is designed to relieve bottlenecking and feed growing LNG export markets.

Background & Timeline

  • Status: Operational 
  • Launch: The pipeline officially went into service in July 2025, marking a critical growth phase for regional gas production. 
  • Delays: The project was delayed from its original 2024 target due to major right-of-way and safety disputes with competitor Energy Transfer. 
  • Regulatory Rulings: In September 2024, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) affirmed the pipeline’s status as a state-regulated gathering system, allowing the project to advance. 

Sustainability & Processing

  • The infrastructure integrates real-time emissions monitoring and low-carbon design strategies.
  • Williams includes the Gillis Treating/Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility in southwestern Louisiana, which processes the gathered natural gas and traps an estimated 750,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year to be stored underground. Link to map.
