According to SONRIS well information entry of May 19, Matador lists the Lanier 16 in Sec.16, T19N, R15W as shut in and abandoned and will use it as salt water storage for their other wells in the area. Apparently Matador, a Texas based company with little or no experience with horizontal drilling, overpressurized the well casing while performing fracing operations, causing it to collapse and rendering the well useless. Anyway, that's the word on the street. Anyone who has any additional information is welcome to respond. Jaime T

Good news is welcome wherever we can find it. I'm not sure if Les or Spring Branch are the giddy types. But put a good well in their back yard and I suspect they will oblige. LOL! In fact I'm sure we could get a lot of volunteers willing to be giddy for a nice HA well or two. Or eight. Yes, sir.
I'm perfectly willing to get giddy!
Yeah, Buddy, the Blount Farms well in Section 2 of 14/12 is an example of the Chesapeake/Matador relationship.
Skip, As a UMI with 8 acres in Sec 16, I have been trying to find out what's going on with the Lanier 16 since they completed fracing operations a few weeks ago. The information I have posted concerning the Lanier 16 is suspect at best. The part about the collapse came from a landowner who lives adjacent to the well and is on good terms with the crew, for what that's worth. My other information comes from Sonris, thus the part about salt-water disposal. However, today I called the DNR office and had someone answer some questions for me and, (now this gets confusing) they said that they show the Lanier 16 as shut in and waiting on orders. I asked what about Scout Report Code 27 and she said there was no code 27 for scout report. I told her I was looking right at it on their website, but she said something about it wasn't a code that DNR used. So I don't know if the 27 on Well Status Code somehow got mixed up with the Scout Report Code or what. Anyway, until I get this straightened out, I apoligize to everyone if I've been spreading bad information. Jaime
Jaime. I had never seen Code 27 before so I had to look it up. I would tend to believe that the DNR staffer is correct in stating that the correct code is Shut In - Waiting On Orders. That makes more sense. Correction appreciated - no apology necessary. The Lanier 16 could be this status for quite some time to come. Then again it could go into test and be reported complete next week. It's anybody's guess and my crystal ball ain't that good. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and all the other landowners in the unit. Good Luck. Skip
Sounds like an error in the computer input.

Most likely they drill a marginal well and need time to decide if its worth hooking up to a pipeline.

Hate to say it Jaime, but you should have leased, at least you would have gotten some bonus money.
The Baron, I hate to say it too, but it looks like you're right. I should have leased. As of April, Matador made their last offer of 25% royality and 2,500/acre bonus. I believe that was the highest offer anyone got in the area. Congrats to those that signed. Looks like my gamble didn't pay off. In early May, Matadors landman contacted us about a ROW across our property for the standard $250/rod feeder line to tie in the area wells including the Lanier 16, which we agreed to. However, haven't heard back from them since they completed frac'ing the Lanier over 2 weeks ago, which might say something about the results of their frac. I did call today and asked Matador's landman if they were still interested in leasing us, ( worth a shot, better late than never, right), but he said they had ceased offering leases in the area. I also called Samson Contour, who hold some of the leases in Sec. 16 but were only offering 1,200/acre bonus, if they were still interested in leasing but he didn't know and would get back to me. And so it goes.
I've read on this site and others that the frac processes can "make or break" a well. If your account is true, this would definitely be a case of the latter. Awfully expensive SWD.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
