Mainland Resources, Burkley-Phillips #1 reported 35 days drilling ahead @ 12,940' on 8/27/2010.
does anyone know where I can find a digital copy of the well logs from the original well drilled by chevron in 1981?
Mainland Resources, Burkley-Phillips #1 - September 3, 2010 - 42 days drilling ahead @ 13,304'
They are really starting to slow down Skip.
Yes but they are half way home in 42 days. What is not clear is if the ROP in decreasing or other operations are being conducted. I guess you don't have to make a pipe trip if LWD is employed but if you want a core ya gotta come out of the hole. I'm also wondering what the casing program is for a well of this depth even if it is more exploratory than production in nature. IMO, this is an all or nothing well for Mainland. They have struggled to get to this point and now they have to find some reasonable prospect. And if they do not find a barn burner, they likely have to find more than one.
Sorry, judy. I just thought it was us industry types that were interested. ROP - rate of penetration - how fast is the bit cutting through the rock. LWD - logging while drilling - when a drill string is getting this deep (long), it is a time consuming job to pull it all in order to run a log and then rerun it to begin drilling again.
What we need is someone sufficiently interested in Mainland's Buena Vista Prospect who will perform some research through the Mississippi State Department of Natural Resources and see what additional information may be available.
Judy, I am also interested in this well. I would think Skip just doesn't have the time to sit down and learn all the details that it takes to get around on the Mississippi web site. I know that I don't have the time and very rarely work in Mississippi.
I worked one project in Mississippi a couple of years ago and all I can say is that it was the worst courthouse I have ever worked.
Judy, here's a link to get you started. You should find the Burkley-Phillips #1 listed as a "Wildcat" in Jefferson County. Good Luck.

Here's a little cut and paste off the site. Use the API well # and just post whatever you find that looks interesting. After you finish watching House of course. LOL!

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
