When a vehicle is switched from gasoline to natural gas, how does the power and performance compare to the power and performance of gasoline?

From what I have read natural gas has a higher octane than most pump gasoline. With a higher octane an engine with a higher compression engine would run better. My go-cart has a 10 to 1 compression ratio that requires premium fuel. I would think the go-cart would preform better on natural gas but I may be wrong. I guess what they take out of the NG would make some difference also.
I have been thinking about putting a turbo charger on it so I may convert to NG when I do that. The scuba tanks would probably be the way to go. I don't need a whole lot of range because 2 hours behind the wheel in it will wear you out. I cracked a rib last week and its hard to get in and out of the go-cart. I did a dumb stunt yesterday and drove it to Nacogdoches by time I got there I was dreading the ride back home.
Coming back from the Shalers party on Red River last summer I hit an armadillo, it sounded like it tore the bottom out of the car.
Back in the early 70s I was talking with a fellow that said that one night he was pretty well lit, running around 100 MPH down Hwy 28 across Catahoula Lake in a Corvette and hit a hog. He said that he just kept going and when he got home and looked at the damage, the dead hog was stuck under the bumper looking at him.
Two Dogs,

Did you utter the sentence "hey y'all watch this" right before you broke your rib?
It was an alcohol related accident.
Excepting Alice.
I hope I don't have the misfortune to meet any of you on the road! I took out a farm liability policy in the event of someone running over one of my cows that escapes. Not much chance of that happening now but I used to have a lease pasture right on a highway and the fences were not that great. Several escapes but fortuntely no accidents.

So NG will run better than gasoline--what about comparisons to diesel? Can a NG engine come close to a diesel engine for power?
It used to a a very common site to see farm trucks switched over, carrying the propane tank in the bed. But I've never driven one or rode in one, always used gas or diesel. I'm just wondering if a NG powered vehicle will really "work". If it can do the heavy hauling and towing
I'd love to drive one just to try it out, see if it makes me want to trade in my F-250 powerstroke.
