I knew there were new taxes on things hidden in the AFA. They are on just about anything you purchase along with the 1% tax on every bank transaction.  I purchased a battery at Fullers Jewelry..the ticket was $15 and there was $2 charge in the total.  I asked what the $2 was for and the jeweler told me it a new tax from Obama he has to collect.  Ok the way I calculate it is that's a 20% tax on a battery...worse then the old Luxury Taxes ( you still see that on Monopoly game boards) that were imposed.

I am wondering...what surprises might be on the next royalty check?

If anyone sees a new tax or charge on their checks let me know.  I will certainly be watching mine.

Ronnie and HANG,

About the $2.00 surtax on the battery. I would assume that its a disposal charge that EPA has mandated by regulation. Just a guess on my part.

New taxes come in every year about this time (the beginning of the year) so there COULD easily be a new federal, state or local tax.

I have not heard of a 1% tax on "every bank transaction" - but there COULD BE new rules allowing banks to charge more for their ATM or other services - but, I doubt if it is a "federal tax".

Is there a new tax on batteries??  OR, did this businessman simply take advantage of someone by tacking on $2 for the battery and blaming it on Obama and the feds??  Is there any new tax like this?

But, I agree it is a better topic for the political page, UNLESS we do know of a new federal tax on O&G that would effect all of us on GHS. Does anyone know of any new taxes on O&G???

Racist? Really? You're in the early lead for dumb post of the year.

Unfortunately, this is not unusual. I have heard it from surprising sources for simply questioning the ability of our elected leader to tell the truth and govern competently. When it pops up in the context of the discussion on the genral page of GHS it only shows how comfortable our general public are in throwing the term around. If not buying a line of bravo sierra makes a racist, guess I am one.
