Why is the SWEPI completion in Sabine termed Jurassic rather than Haynesville? Just curious. Thanks.

The first Haynesville Shale wells permitted by SWEPI's partner, EnCana, were called Jurassic Reservoir A.  The name was also used for EnCana's original Haynesville Drilling & Production units.  Questar and EOG also used the JUR designation for their early wells and units.  Chesapeake, the other real early mover, used HA to designate their Haynesville wells and units.  Other operators followed their lead in using HA.  Over time  HA has become the more widely used designation.  Regardless which is used, the real determining factor of the formation, zone or interval is the depth definition contained in the unit applications and approved by the state as an order.  Early in the play some operators formed CV and LCV units that by their depth definition included the Haynesville.  The Commissioner put a stop to that in the summer of '08 but those units already approved remained unchanged.  Therefore there are units and wells bearing CV and LCV that are actually Haynesville wells.

Skip and others, I noticed that Indigo reported a horizontal cotton valley completion in Section 35 T 13 n - R 16 W, Desoto. How would you rate this well? Also, what are your thoughts about further Horizontal cotton valley wells in Desoto and other parishes??

treeman

Indigo has drilled a number of good horizontal CV wells and will likely drill many more as they hold the rights to the CV/LCV over much of Chesapeake's HA leasehold (Indigo assigned its deep rights to CHK and CHK assigned its shallow rights to Indigo).  Horizontal CV wells were the next big play that operators were planning when the Haynesville Play came along and bumped everything else on to a back burner.  In some areas these wells produce meaningful amounts of liquids which can make them quite attractive to operators with mostly dry gas.  I recall a recent horizontal CV wells that IP'ed at 10MMcfd with good liquids.  Now that's an impressive well.
HellloJust curious the well in red river parish in s 36 T14n 10 w that is our section in the bracky branch area this well must be going into another section from our section correct?
Correct.  S36 - 14N - 10W is the surface location.  The Bottom Hole is in S1 -13N - 10W.
