Marc, generally 5,200 to 6,000 feet. Both oil and gas. Pettit is productive over large part of N. La. and South Arkansas.

Does the Petttit Formation covers Desoto and Sabine Parish

Would the production unit for gas still be 640 acres and oil 40 acres for the units?

Production units for gas while generally larger than those for shallow oil are not all 640 acres.  And they can be laid out to include portions of adjacent sections.  I have not worked a lot with Pettit units but those I have seen recently were 320 acres.  Maybe someone can tell us what the well spacing would be.

In the areas I am familiar with Pettit units are generally 80 acres.  The areas with which I am most familiar include Bossier, Webster and Claiborne parishes and Columbia and Lafayette counties in Ark. I do not know of any larger than 80 acres. There are many Pettit wells in that area. Some may be on 40 acre spacing.

Doesn't the Black Lake Unit in Natchitoches Parish go to the Pettit formation?  That field is a single unit of over 15,000 acres.

Black Lake is a Pettit Field and Yes, it is a Field Wide Unit

It is very common practice in old fields to create Field Wide Unit. I am certain that field was developed on individual well units. Landowners need to be diligent to ensure unit production is sufficient to justify operator holding this much acreage. Production must be maintained in paying quantities.

Last year other landowners and I were able to get our leases back after 50 years in the Pettit Lime Horsehead Field in Columbia County, Ar. This was only about 2,000 acre field and production was almost nil. Some of owners have now leased their land in this field.

My family is involved in an old Pettit unit that has been going since 1959.  The production unit has been held up by one well.  The size of the unit looks like it maybe about 4 sections.   The operator just received a permit to go back into an old well.

Does anyone know the well testing specifics of the Pettit formation??
