I signed a lease with CHK approx 2 mo. ago. Lease money has been paid on time. I have approx 35 acre ownership in a total of 135 acres undivided interest. Other owners held out and at this point do not have leases. I have just been contacted by Seitel, as they want to do seismic testing on the property @ $15.00 per acre. I understand they are employed by the O & G Co. St. Mary's. Can someone shed some light on this? Why would another O & G Co. be requesting to do field testing on this property when I am leased with another/CHK? All input is much appreciated. Location: Shelby County

I was told they sell this information to the big companies like CHK. Ours was leased too, and we had the same offer. We are also leased by CHK. We did go ahead and sign for the testing. From what I understand, the information will be used to decide when and if they will drill.
Robert, maybe you can help me; "is it too late to lease once a pad has been laid on property next to y ours?"
I, too, own property and have leased my property to XTO Energy (property was previously leased by Hunt Petroleum) and Seitel contacted me and asked to do seismic testing on my property about two months ago. I checked with XTO Energy before signing and telling Seitel it was okay to do the seismic testing. When I ask the representative from XTO Energy they told me that yes, it was okay for Seitel to do the testing. Seitel sent me a check and did the testing as far as I know. I suggest that you check with CHK (since you have a lease with them) before signing anything.
Also, have you heard of any major drilling in Shelby County in the last 4 or 5 months? Do you know if they are looking for oil or gas, or both? And, have you heard as to what the future might hold in the Shelby County area after the downward turn in the economy?
It seems that the only news I have been picking up on is in Louisiana. Would love to hear if anyone knows anything about Shelby County and what is happening there.

Margie. Two suggestions. Check the group pages. I know there is an E. TX. Group and there may be a Shelby County Group. As I focus on NW. LA. , I contact GHS member jffree1 whenever I have a question concerning E. TX.
