There's a rumor that Devon is suspending further activity in NW Shelby County. This includes Samford 1h. Can anyone confirm?

Sounds like a landman rumor to me. If you have unleased minerals in that area, expect contact from a landman soon ha. Wouldn't suprise me a bit however.
Would not be too surprised if there is some truth to your statement.

It may be a fact that the Adams 1-H well came in with less than impressive stats (1.5 mmcfd for the IP report) however that well appears to be a HA completion and all HA maps show that the area in NW Shelby is on the very fringe of prospective HA production, so not too surprising to see the dissappointing numbers from that well.

The maps for the area do appear to show better prospects for Bossier Shale and DVN's Whitton well in the area - although not huge - seems to be a decent BO completion at just under 7 mmcfd IP on restricted choke.

The area also does have some activity in other shallower formations (James Lime, Lower Cotton Valley, Pettet, etc.) and there also seems to be some interest in the Cotton Valley/Haynesville LIME that is below the HA/BO shale.

That said, even though it would be great to see one of those 32 million/day barn burners come in like recently down in Nac County, it seems that there are still many very interesting prospects for this area of NW and Central Shelby County.

Leasing does still seem to be continuing in the area, so it is also not much of a stretch to think that the Landmen will be touting the poor results of that Adams 1-H well as a reason as to why lease prices are deflated in the region. Much easier to get landowners to accept low terms when staring down those lower well results than I expect that EOG is now seeing in their negotiations in the areas near their 32 million/day Crane well!
If what you say were true, D. Gaar, since it was drilled as a vertical (I think), seems that if the Haynesville weren't worth completing in, they would have come up the hole and completed in the Bossier!
CHK-Smith 1H, DVN-Adams 1H & DVN-Whitton 1H are all horizontal completions.

Unit Petrolium has had some recent vertical wells reported in the area that appear to be producing in the Cotton Valley/Haynesville LIME formation that is directly below the HA/BO shale. Interested to see the well logs for those wells, but nothing has yet been posted publically.
In case you haven't looked... Baker Hughes shows a rig on the Devon-Bell 1H, Hamp West survey, A-759. I think King John will be happy with that news.
jffree1,
Uh-oh, the Devon-Bell 1H site we just visited we thought was in the Alexander Gates Survey, 251....did we have the wrong DVN Bell 1H??? This one is very close to the DVN Whitton 1H, just south a short distance. Question: How many different companies can be involved??? Can Devon be the production (?) company, another company suppy the rig and yet another company provide the crew? I am so shaleless (clueless) Thanks for being so patient and providing what info you can.
Sharon
Sharon, the surface location is in Hamp West but the bottom hole location (end of the lateral) is in A. Gates (unless they swapped ends and it hasn't changed yet on RRC) .

The operator (Devon in this case) will hire a drilling contractor to drill the well. The contractor, who provides the rig, will also provide their own crew to drill the well. Devon will have company people on the site, as well.
I was referring to the Forest Oil well in J. R. Haley, A-264
