I believe that we need to support the Pickens's Plan. We should go online to the plan and see how royalty owners can join w/that. What about banning together and writing all our political officials and asking them to develop uses for NG, etc. It is important even for our national security and especially for our taxes in our states, etc. We need this money to operate, etc. We need to export, use NG trucks, school buses, etc. I think we should all make an effort to"swamp" phones, faxes, e-mails, etc. to our Congressmen, Reps, Governors, etc. We could get attention! If we want things done, don't we usually have to do it ourselves? Whatever happened to , " If it is to be, it is up to me"? Hey, if it does not help, we did not lose much, but we have a lot to gain. We could consider a petition or whatever. I know many must have some good ideas. We could join in w/established organizations, form one of our own--whatever!!?? I have a strong belief that this is going to get worse before it gets better and many changes will need to transpire prior to its getting better. INPUT ANYONE?????? I MISS MY MAILBOX MONEY!!!! LOL Anyone agree????
Marg, we should definitely push Congress not to place artificial regulatory barriers that would interfer with the global trade of natural gas.
Regarding natural gas as a transportation fuel, everything is already in place for the transition to continue to more usage of CNG & LNG in vehicles. The speed and level of transition is strictly dependent upon the market and consumers. In reality the purchase of electric vehicles will likely have the biggest impact as that will increase the consumption of natural gas for power generation.
I am not in favor of handing large sums of tax payer money over to large companies when this is not required. I attended a large alternative fuels conference last year and it is clear from the NGV industry that no governmental subsidies are required as the economics of natural gas as a vehicular fuel are already sufficient. Consumers just need to start buying the vehicles (natural gas or electric).
Back in the 50's busses replaced the trolleys and street cars.. almost overnight. Why? My father said that the tire manufacturers wanted a market for all the tires they made and since the war was over they lost the military market. So replace the clean energy street car with rubber on the road busses.
So if we want to convert to NG vehicles and appliances just as the streetcars were replace (and tracks buried or dug up) then it could be done in just months.
Or we can buy Volts and burn our houses down.
The political clout of tire manufacturers, even in post-WWII America, pales in comparison to the Coal Lobby which is not just coal mining but electrical generation utilities, railroads, inland waterway transportation to name a few of the biggest. That lobby has numerous protectors in Congress from both parties. Until the political clout on the side of natural gas exceeds that of the Coal Lobby, very little will change and it will change quite slowly IMO. The most likely scenario is for the Big Oil Lobby to exert it's influence which may happen in the future as the Major Global Energy companies acquire increasing interests in unconventional reserves much of which will be gas whether it be wet or dry.
Excellent information, Skip. NARO HAS ALWAYS LOBBIED A LOT FOR THIS INDUSTRY. Perhaps we should support them more; I used to attend conventions, etc. Maybe we should give that a priority again.
Skip, most Big Gas companies (ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, BP, ConocoPhillips, etc) are members of the Natural Gas Supply Association and have lobbied Congress to support natural gas for over a decade. Natural gas has been the larger earnings generator for these companies for many years.
The Coal Lobby has already lost some control as evidenced by several new EPA regulations that will result in the shutdown of 60-80 GW of coal fired generation over the next few years that will be replaced by natural gas.
By the way, most electrical utilities are not part of the Coal Lobby with the Southern Companies being the primary supporter.
How many people bought computers before there was the internet?
Almost everyone I know had a computer before the internet. It was a grea tway to do data bases, do university work, one could do paperwork w/o correction fluid, no cc' s as copies could be made and no erasures for critics like I am .(Holding up to see thinner paper, etc. LOL). There were many activities, etc. and it was fun to have a computer anyway; the internet is just so informative, so helpful, and a daily part of our lives.
Take it farther...let them know we will support ONLY energy friendly candidates..
I know that this site has a good base for changing things. I know that some of the folks on this site already are getting mail box money and figure they would b e agreeable to helping support any effort that looked reasonable and workable toward this goal.
There are many knowledgeable resourceful men and women on this website. Keith has a lot of talent; we have gentlemen who majored in this; many of us are involved in training and organizations that deal w/energy, etc. I REALLY THINK WE COULD DO A LOT TO IMPROVE OUR SITUATION; MY COUSIN IS IN THE FIFTH NAVY FLEET (Aggie w/high rank)--timing is right to point out need for energy independence , election forthcoming etc. LOVE THE INPUT. I had not thought of the electric cars needing gas; Houston is suppose to be getting stations for that. There is an old NG place very near my home; it could reopen easily too. I was encouraged that it was pointed out that we could get this fairly soon; a friend here kept telling me that, but is is so positive about everything. LOL WE COULD GET A NAME IF NEEDED, ETC. jUST FORM A LITLE ORGANIZATION USE (USE SOUTHERN ENERGY) lol. I am very serious about this. i have been a winner usually and i do believe in the fact that if we do not help ourselves, others will not. GO HAYNESVILLE SHALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We all have computers...that's a start. Most are savvy and, like me , OLDER then dirt and have a lot of history of experience. Last time I worked on something fun was using and old KayPro computer helping with the movement to secede Oak Cliff from Dallas.
The effort failed but we did manage to get some of the bond money that was stolen from Oak Cliff and spent in North Dallas replaced for some roads and bridges..
Oh, I was on the Queen Elizabeth and at one of the cocktail parties a guest referred to my being from Dallas as were a group of couples. I replied, "Oh , no, I am from Oak Cliff, and and they are from FAHR NARTH Dalless...not at all the same town.
Tell me what you want me to do when you get an effort started..Haven't had fun in a long time.
Took my nap and did some thinking.
OK plan one: make it clear that the mail box bunch will support ONLY the candidates that are energy friendly.
Idea A: Some one who knows more then I do ..find out who these guys are. Then tell us where to send our $10, $20, whatever contributions to their campaigns making sure they know who this money coming from.
Maybe make our donation odd numbers say $9 or 19 or 29...to tag them.
Still thinking
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
