Why would the company I have been leased with want to survey the lease?

They surveyed my lease in order to put in road and the pad site...

so maybe you got some good news coming soon.

Our family has had two of the leasing companies survey (or re-read) our lease agreements... not sure why, but in one case the filed lease did not match our signed lease, nor was the filed one at the same percentage as originally agreed upon.

In the case of one, they actually did a physical property survey and compared it to the original will and leases that we held. They found some discrepancies between the two and had them legally altered to match. We had to sign some amended lease agreements, which just happened to be in our favor. 

Bill R, if the lease that's filed doesn't match the one you signed, that may be a hell of a problem. I'd be very curious to know why this was.

AC123, property surveys are done to determine the exact acreage of the property for calculating royalty payments. I believe state law requires the properties in a unit to be surveyed before the unit application can be approved, but this may just be industry custom.
