HOUSTON, Aug. 10--The Jurassic Haynesville shale has yielded flow rates of a restricted 25-27 MMcfd of gas at 7,800-8,100 psi flowing pressure at two horizontal wells in a core area in Nacogdoches County, Texas, said EOG Resources Inc.

Those rates are the first 30-day average production levels at the Murray 1H and Crane 26-1H wells, in which EOG has 96% working interest.

The wells had initial production rates of 32 and 30 MMcfd at 9,700 and 9,200 psi flowing pressure, respectively, which EOG said makes them two of the top three Haynesville shale initial completion rates in Texas or Louisiana to date.

In the same sweet spot farther east in San Augustine County, Texas, the Walters 1H well had a restrictied initial production rate of 21 MMcfd of gas. EOG’s working interest is 49%.

The Haynesville in this Texas core area is at 13,000-14,000 ft true vertical depth vs. 11,000-12,000 ft in Louisiana, EOG noted. The Texas Haynesville also has a better amount of clay, higher total organic carbon, and greater pressure. EOG said its all-in return rates exceed 30% in the Haynesville-Bossier play.



EOG also said that after several months of production the Bossier shale appears to be a separate target that performs as well as the Haynesville. For example, the Red River 5-3H well in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, in which EOG has 100% working interest, began production at 15.2 MMcfd of gas with 6,750 psi flowing pressure.
