Transocean Asks Deepwater Blowout Evacuees to Sign Waivers

How would you like to work for this company? You are almost killed by a blowout and they take you to a hotel room in Kenner and ask you to sign this before they let you go see your loved ones! Pitiful.

Jay,
I think this a very important post. And since no one else has responded, I will bump it.
I think it is disgusting, and hopefully illegal, for a company to hold its employees hostage after such a horrifying experience, in order to insure their employees still have jobs and expect no restitution.
It is horrible in my opinion.
Too late for the liberals... what's Rush and his Right Wing buddies got to say about this mess?
Well, I guess since I'm a Democrat of the more liberal persuasion, I should answer. I'm sorry I didn't know this until you showed it to me in the other thread. I guess we all agree this ain't partisan--it's just bad. I think you're getting at why the powers that be (now Dem's) aren't raising this--well they should. I can't imagine a company doing this crap and then testifying before Congress as if they're an upstanding corporate citizen. Thanks for pointing this out Jay.
What would you do in their situation?
How about take care of my employees and own up to my responsibility.
yea, they really come across as very cold. i have wondered why transocean would be financially responsible. it would seem to me the company doing the job during which the blowout occurred would bear the responsibility. i had heard on the news three executives were heading somewhere for a hearing tomorrow. not sure if it was Washington or Louisiana. it was reported that all three men would state that their companies were not at fault.it would seem to me the responsibility would lie somewhere haliburton and BP. i am sure it will take a long time but eventually i think we will know exactly what happened and the blame and responsibility can be dispersed appropriately.

Did they hire Tiger Wood's PR firm by chance?
i had lunch with a group of law students the other day. the waiver letter made for some interesting debate however the general consensus was there was no way this would stand up in court. also, the students thought the workers who were "forced" to sign the waiver could possibly have a law suite against Transocean.

This is probably pure coincidence but I've seen at least 6-7 BP spokespeople interviewed about various aspects of this disaster and every single one has been female. I may just have missed other interviews but the ones I have seen have all been women representing the company.

Keith, Tiger hired a guy who's supposed to be the best PR-person in the U.S. (Ari Fleischer) and then fired him shortly thereafter.
Rosebud, I don't watch TV too much, only while I am eating. You know me and can vouch for me not looking like I eat very much. I have only seen men that were spokespersons for BP on TV. I have kept up with the news on the incident in the Wall Street Journal and all I have read is men from BP commenting.
I watch too much TV - also usually while I'm eating! LOL! Today I saw several men being interviewed (to put it mildly) regarding the Deepwater tragedy - with BP, Halliburton and Transocean. I guess my observation is flawed!!
I am not sure where they (BP) are actually located, but I am not far from Texas City Dis.., and Gulf of Mex..,so far, took a brief look at web sight and they specialize also in coffee???
