I have heard that leases are being bought in Columbia County and don't know whether they are hunting for Haynesville Shale or just looking for oil. Has anyone heard anything on this?

Mark,

Marathon Oil is trying to release our land in South Arkansas, South of Emerson and about one mile north of the Louisiana/ Arkansas line, North of Millerton, LA. They have lease some of the land next to ours for $300.00 per acre that belong to a Mr. Smith that lives in Little Rock. He was unaware of the Haynesville Shale when he renewed his lease. We have told Marathon that it would take more than $300.00 to release ours. The lease is up the 25th of August, and we have not heard back from Marathon as of this time..

Marathon is currently trying to move a rig into a site that at one time was called Cheatham #1 that was to be drilled two years ago, but could not find a rig. They have moved over 350' on to Lamar Smith property and prepared the site to drill as soon as they can get the rig moved in!

Thank you so much and I will keep you posted on what I hear. Agaain Thanks Mark
James - I called Marathon yesterday and they were supposed to be overnighting my lease papers to me. There was aa newspaper article that originated in Magnolia 9/4/08 and copied in the Tearkana Gazette that mentions 3 new well permits to drill in south Ark. I told Marathon they could send the lease papers but I was not signing any time soon.

Thank you

Hey Aubrey, I still have not signed my lease offered from Hunter Smith. Do you have any info on that area yet?

Section 17, Township 18 South – Range 22 West, Columbia County, AR

Thanks!
Did you end up leasing?
James,

Is your land in or near Marathons Cypress Field? I was involved with helping my cousin on leases with Marathon in that field when Marathon drilled first wells in that field. I bought some leases in field but unfortunately they only drilled 6 or 7 wells in field.

I own small acreage in Horsehead field adjacent to the Fox Pen. Production is from Pettit lime. Field is operated as fieldwide unit by Jeems Bayou. It appears to me that with very small production from a single well there can be no justification for the leases on about 2,000 acres cannot be justified. I propose to try and get the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission to dissolve this unit so that landowners may pursue better leases on their property. What I want to do is to contact like minded landowners in this field. My problem is that I only know a couple of people in that unit. Last week while down at Lake Erling I met a guy who told me that Cheatham heirs owned considerable land in that area. If you have interest in this area I would very much like to talk to you.

If you wish you or any others who may read this can contact me at 1-(480)-993-8048 or by e-mail at calais0929@aol.com. Given the leasing going on this area I believe we should act now. Maybe we can get our leases back, or at least light a fire under Jeems Bayou to drill more wells. I doubt they will do that, but they might farmout to someone who will drill.

My family has aprrox. 61 acres in the Atlanta community near the old Shepherds Grocery about 9 miles east of Emerson on Hwy 98. Some of the family was approached with an offer of $100/acre. Thankfully they laughed at that. Besides the one-fifth interest in mineral rights I have there I also have 3 acres on Lake Bistineau in Webster Parish where we received an offer of 12,000 per acre. We signed an intent to lease with Petrohawk but have not heard from them since early this month and the offer expires soon. This has been exciting but at the same time quite nerve racking. Anyway, I'm really glad Ark. is represented on this site. Go Haynesville Shale! Go Columbia County! Go Hogs!
I have interests around Atlanta too, and Triad is contacting me.   please contact me - let me know what's happening there now.
Yes Chesapeak Energy is presently drilling to deep wells south of Magnolia.
My grand father owned 40 acres of land in Emerson back in the 1920's but he lost it in the late 1930's. They only took the surface but he still owned 1/2 of the mineral rights. I had a title search done back in 1986 and they told me he still owned the mineral rights to the property. The last owners of the surface was from ElDorado. If the present owner leases the land any oli companies is my family entitled to any of the mineral rights on that land?
If you owned the minerals in the 80s then yes it is still yours assuming no errors were made on any deeds from 1900 to present. Also the O&G will be calling the mineral owners first not the landowners. They want the minerals!!!!There is no need to lease the land if they cant get the minerals
