What's SWN trying to do here? Pump up their stock or are they about to get to work because they've figured something out?

Permalink Reply by obed w odom on October 15, 2014 at 8:34 SWN stock is up 7% today as of 2 minutes ago, but this may have more to do with their play in Colorado than the BD. Of course, with the recent gyrations in the stock market SWN could be down by today's close.
Permalink Reply by North LA on October 15, 2014 at 8:43 I think it has more to do with NG prices in the northeast as winter is coming and other marcellus players have had a big jump today also. e.g. Cabot is up 6% and Exco is up 22%
Permalink Reply by Jon on October 16, 2014 at 5:50 Houston, Texas – October 16, 2014...Southwestern Energy Company (NYSE: SWN) today announced that it has signed a purchase and sale agreement with Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) to acquire certain oil and gas assets covering approximately 413,000 net acres in West Virginia and southwest Pennsylvania targeting natural gas, natural gas liquids and crude oil contained in the Upper Devonian, Marcellus and Utica shales for approximately $5.375 billion.
Permalink Reply by Skip Peel - Mineral Consultant on October 16, 2014 at 5:58 It's a big investment for SWN and confirms that the Marcellus is their focus for future development. They may drill their Brown Dense units that are currently undeveloped but this begs the question whether a sale to another operator might be better for the Lower Smackover lessors/mineral owners. Another company might have a greater interest in making the Brown Dense a priority.
Permalink Reply by North LA on October 16, 2014 at 7:14 Seems like a smart move by SWN. That's their bread and butter and they are making good wells in the Marcellus. Overall i don't think this bodes well for us in LA and AR as they will focus on the Marcellus for the forseeable future. I appreciate SWN giving the Brown Dense a shot, but looks like I'm going to have the let the goats back out to pasture soon ☺

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
