Freestone County
XTO Energy will drill the J.M. Pollard Gas Unit Well No. 42 to 13,000 feet 3.9 miles northwest of Donie in the Freestone (Cotton Valley-Bossier Consolidated) Field. It is in the Robert Lauderdale Survey, A-392.
Leon County
The Gail King Well No. 34 and the Gail King Well No. 38 will be drilled by XTO Energy in the Bear Grass (Travis Peak) Field. The wells will hit 12,000 feet in the M.C. Rejon Survey, A-19. The No. 34 is seven miles northwest of Jewett and the No. 38 is 6.8 miles northwest of Jewett.
Limestone County
XTO Energy will drill the S.J. Harlow Gas Unit Well No. 15 to 12,800 feet 13.8 feet southeast of Groesbeck in the Freestone (Cotton Valley-Bossier Consolidated) Field. It is in the J.L. Chavert Survey, A-4.
Devon Energy will drill the Mildred Thompson GU Well No. 16 to 13,500 feet in a lease 13.7 miles southeast of Groesbeck in the Freestone (Cotton Valley-Bossier Consolidated) Field. It is in the J.L. Chavert Survey, A-4.
COMPLETION
Freestone County
Anadarko Petroleum completed the Worthy "A" Unit Well No. 12 to 13,145 feet 2.1 miles south of Donie in the Bear Grass Field. On a 48/64-inch choke the well potentialed 6.936 million cubic feet of gas in the Cotton Valley Consolidated.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
