EnCana Spuds 1st Horizontal Haynesville Shale Well in Natchitoches Parish (5/1/10)

EnCana has spudded the first horizontal Haynesville Shale well in Natchitoches Parish and is located in the King Hill Field.  This well is also the first Haynesville Shale well in Natchitoches Parish since the vertical Janet Messenger 8 #1 Well drilled in 2008.

Oree, unfortunately probably not for another six months.

Drill time: 1-2 months
Delay until fracture stimulation: 1-2 months
Fracture stimulation: 1-2 weeks
Time for State to post on Sonrise after test: 2-3 months

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
