add the Devon's Oliver unit well # 4---not a shale well but maybe largest gas well in Shelby County. Listed as Cotton Valley sands but I think has to be "Pinnacle" has made 6 Bcf in only 17 months. IP test at close to 30mmcfd. This is a vertical well. API # 419-31266. Still producting about 41/2 mmcfd after 17 months. This well is in the Stockman County Line Field SSW Shelby.

jffreel1---I am amassed that production is only from 70' of pay perf. You said needs field transfer--Why? in this area 12,300 is about 100' above the shale so it's still CV unless as I suggest this is one of those rare points of so called "Pinnacle Reef"

adubu, It is just my opinion that there are some "Cotton Valley" wells in Shelby County which are actually producing from the Bossier/Haynesville and that this could be one of them. Take a look at the report for the Red River 877 and compare the formation depths. The RR 877 is about 6 miles South of the Oliver.

jffreel--the shale depth is deeper south of this area and would be very very unusual for a vertical well to produce this much gas from a shale formation. I would bet the house this is not a vertical shale well. The only thing I know that could make this much is a Pinnacle reef. These spikes of lime and sand from the CV lime (aka haynesville lime) and smakeover up thru shale into CV sands is what the reefs are. They are usually only in about 100-200 acre spot and the drill bore has to hit it perfectly thru the middle to get production. These have EUR of up to 80 BCF. These where the "Gold Rush" wells of the 80's in east texas, million spend drilling in search. Maybe some geologist or petro eng on site would add their opinion to this. This fits with other wells close the Case, Davis, and Thomas wells with good production then move a miles a same depth wells will be marginal to pay out in life of well

Oh, I'm not arguing that at all, adubu. I'm just saying that the Oliver is a distinguished cotton valley well if that is where it is really producing from. But the depths don't jive, to me. I believe it is something other than cotton valley producing that kind of IP and pressure from an almost vertical well (deviated less than 400') with a 70' producing interval. As you say, compare it to the other wells in the area and it isn't typical at all.

jfreel1-- agree with what you are saying and what maybe we are seeing is at this depth ( with you say is similar depth to the shale) is the shale is pushed out by the "spike" of the lime fracing thru the shale into the CV sands (ie Pinnacle reef) maybe some of our knowledgeable petroleum eng. or geologist site members would give their opinions on what is the oliver #4

adubu, the Oliver #4 needs a field transfer, I think. TVD is 12,359' in a directional hole that found the CV at 10, 025' (top). Producing interval is 12,230' - 12,300' and the official IP was 19.623 MMcfd.
