Looks like this one is taking a while. I would be curious as to the situation.
Ike, Drilling Ahead is a general term which basically means the rig is still operating on the well site. The well may have reached Total Depth and operations other than actual drilling may have been underway when the report was turned in last Friday. Also the TMS operators create their own problems in regard to reasonable drilling time when they brag about how few days it took to drill a certain well. Record drill days are not average drill days. Also the significant variation in True Vertical Depth and Measured Depth across the play area should be considered.
Several recent wells reported longer drill times. GDP Bates 25-24H #1 - 54 days. SN Dry Fork East Unit 2H - 49 days.
Yes sir, you are on point and make perfect sense. I was not so much questioning the reason(s) why as much as I was curious about general information. In the past, when these wells were being drilled, there were small snippets of information that filtered out. That no longer seems to be the case, well at least as much, and I imagine the drilling companies and operating companies prefer this.
