Just a sketchy run down of the meeting held tonight at the Goldonna school auditorium. The sole speaker was an attorney Rodney Harrington, other speakers were planned but were not there. Mr. Harrington's main emphasis was to encouraged people in our area to be patient. Although the leasing of mineral rights may have come to a halt for now, he was confident that this area is involved in the Haynesville Shale business. He believed that leasing activity will pick back up in early 2009. He strongly recommended forming community coalitions to strengthen your bargaining power, with the assistance of an attorney, of course :) He mentioned that he generally gets 3% - 4% of the signing bonus only, not the production royalties. Really no new revelations but worth the trip.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
