My goodness. Not many things could insult the great President Lincoln more than that.

Though they gave Obama 1/2 of Lincolns face, he could never be 1/1,000,000th of the man Lincoln was. Sadly, they could never electronically give Obama the courage, faith, leadership abilities, or integrity of Lincoln.

Interesting points that I thought were appropriate responses to the comments about my Rollingstone cover. It is precisely because the natural gas issue is important and has been mentioned in the election campaigns, that I even brought it up. In absence of any content of exactly what Obama has in mind when elected, the negative comments about that picture inspired me to share what CNN and myself see in the man.

Differences in others does not scare or even bother me.....it is the glaring disdain that others have for differences (opinion, race, religion, and so on) and Indifference when facing opportunities to improve our community and society I LOATHE!

On a personal note Vanderbilt is a fine school and one of the few Ivy's that I have seen reward their hardworking students, a family friend was able to complete his graduate and undergrad there in less than 4 years!

As an RNC supporter (or perhaps Independent), it makes me smile to know that you are familiar with the points of our democratic candidate....even if you do not agree.

Parents dictate their children's future not politics. Barack is a product of a mother who cared and loved for him. who worked hard for him, who wanted the best for him and made it happen for him. He got to where he is at because of a loving mother not politics.

To be honest with you. I was watching Vanderbilts offense attacking South Carolina's defense last night. I did promise a few people on this site that I would try to refrain from to much political dialogue. I would however say the DNC needs to change their political talking points once in awhile. I basically knew what your post would say before you wrote it.

Why would the Republicans spend a whole night of their convention attacking ordinary people?

With the nation watching, the Republicans mocked, dismissed, and actually laughed out loud at Americans who engage in community service and organizing.

What you didn't hear from the Republicans at their convention is a single new idea about how to make the healthcare system work, get our economy moving for the middle class, or improve education.

Just attacks -- on me, and on you.

But what the McCain attack squad doesn't understand is that people like you -- who devote part of their busy lives to organizing and building their communities -- have the power to change this country.

worst of all -- and this deserves to be noted -- they insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process.

Both Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin specifically mocked Barack's experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago more than two decades ago, where he worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.

Let's clarify something for them right now.

Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.

And it's no surprise that, after eight years of George Bush, millions of people have found that by coming together in their local communities they can change the course of history. That promise is what our campaign has been about from the beginning.

Throughout our history, ordinary people have made good on America's promise by organizing for change from the bottom up.

Community organizing is the foundation of the civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, labor rights, and the 40-hour workweek. And it's happening today in church basements and community centers and living rooms across America.

Meanwhile, we still haven't gotten a single idea during the entire Republican convention about the economy and how to lift a middle class so harmed by the Bush-McCain policies.

It's now clear that John McCain's campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks -- on Barack Obama and on you -- are the only way they can earn a third term for the Bush policies that McCain has supported more than 90 percent of the time.

Obama spells out plans for change

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama called his acceptance speech on Thursday "the American Promise." It included a list of promises for change that he said, "We need right now."

Taxes
Obama said he would:
• Cut taxes "for 95 percent of all working families."
• "Eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses" and start-ups "that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow."
• Advocate "a tax code that doesn't reward the lobbyists who wrote it, but the American workers and small businesses who deserve it."
• "Stop giving tax breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas" and "start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America."

Energy
Obama said he would:
• Set a goal that "in 10 years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East."
• "Tap natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology and find ways to safely harness nuclear power."
• "Help our auto companies retool, so that the fuel-efficient cars of the future are built right here in America
• Make it easier for Americans to afford U.S.-built, fuel-efficient cars.
• Have the federal government "invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy -- wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels." Doing so, he said, would "lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can't ever be outsourced."

Education
Obama said he would:
• "Finally meet our moral obligation to provide every child a world-class education."
• Find more money for early childhood education and recruit teachers with better pay while also pushing "higher standards and more accountability."
• Make sure young Americans can afford college if they serve their community or country.

Health care
Obama said he would:
• "Finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American."
• Lower premiums for those who have health care and let those without coverage "get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves."
• Make sure insurance companies "stop discriminating against those who are sick and need care the most."

Labor law
Obama said he would:
• Provide paid sick days and "better family leave" for workers.
• Close the pay gap between the sexes.

Bankruptcy law
Obama said he would:
• Change bankruptcy law "so that your pensions are protected ahead of CEO bonuses."

Federal spending
Obama said he would:
• Pay for "every dime" of his plans' costs "by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens that don't help America grow."
• Cut federal programs that don't work and improve those that do while reducing their costs.

National defense
Obama said he would:
• "End this war in Iraq responsibly and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan."
• "Only send our troops into harm's way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home."
• "Rebuild our military to meet future conflicts."

Foreign relations
Obama said he would:
