When we signed that lease in 1999 it was for $50 per acre at 3/16%. Rotten, I know but I was stupid. The well they drilled produced little or nothing and we were held by that production. Granted, at the time the lease was signed no one knew about what lurks in the Haynesville Shale.
After a lot of worries and desperate feelings, JW Operating finally released my minerals. Even if I don't re-lease with anyone else, I have confidence knowing that I'm not tied to a poor producing well and getting nothing in return for it. Now I can sleep at night...as long as the kiddos at my house are sleeping!
So you see, being free from a company that has you obligated to a contract and giving you nothing for it is never a good thing. That is why it is significant for me! At the end of all of this, we have to be happy with the choices that we make for our families. So far, I am very satisfied.
