Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |

1) I live in S/W DeSoto. Cajun offered $25 take or leave it (they came back 2 or 3 times with the same contract/money offer, etc). I said "thanks, but no thanks". There were a number of things that didn't set too well with me. For instance, no money was to be paid unless they ACTUALLY came onto the property to do the shoot. Furthermore, there was no time limit to the contract, which meant I would be signing away access rights from now on. Ain't gonna happen. There were some other stuff in the contract that I didn't like also.
2) The proposed shot plat map showed where my land would be criss-crossed every few hundred yards with lines, and criss-crossed the other way with "shot holes" 'bout every 200 yds. apart. One of the shot holes was to be almost in our front yard. The guy trying to get me to sign said " . . . oh, they probably won't shoot that hole . . . " You betcha.
3) I am not a rich person and the extra cash ($25x75ac.) would have been nice, but, like grandma used to say " . . . not enough sugar for the nickel . . . ", meaning that when I considered the potential damage to my acreage, the money didn't seem all that much.
4) They have begun to start their goings on 'bout 1/4 mile down the road. Three vehicles the size and type of those used in the logging business (skidders) were parked there ready to go. My land is mostly wooded (timber not cut in over 35 years) with a meandering creek going through. Beutiful North Louisiana hill country. Those vehicles had (by necessity, I'm sure) the large lugged tires that would allow them go anywhere they wanted to. I doubt seriously if they would come back and smooth out their tracks (they came onto a neighbor's property just down the road during the winter time when the ground is wet and mushy -- he said they made a mess out of his place ! ).
I am NOT bashing the seismograph people, I assure you. They provide a valuable service to the O/G industry and they, or course, have the right to make a living too. Also, I am NOT trying to tell others what to do. Each person has his/her own agenda. It's just in my case the offer simply did not outweigh the possible intrusive damage that might be done to my prooperty (and, oh yes, I am unapologically a "tree-hugger" -- uh, that is, as long as they don't those shinny green leaved vines running up and down them). LOL
