Chesapeake Royalty Owners in the Haynesville

Hi! My name is Katie and I work for Chesapeake Energy in the Haynesville. I would like to open this blog to answer any questions or help guide you through the royalty owner process with Chesapeake. We're happy to have you as a part of our family, and I want to help take care of our family members! This is a general blog to address a variety of concerns, but if specific inquiries begin to emerge on a regular basis, I will split the topics as to better manage timely responses.

Thanks and enjoy!

Hi Katie, I do have questions about Chesapeake selling NG to its own entity. It seems like others in our area of the Johnson Branch Field of the Haynesville Shale are getting a better price for their gas from other Companies. I don't understand why we don't get the going price rather than the lowest price which seems to be what Ches. pays. I did receive an answer from a public relations guy at Ches. but he just gave me the figures that we get on our check stub....although it didn't even match exactly which was puzzling. Thanks. Sm

I know a lady who has land to lease near FM 139 where Chk. plans to drill two HS National Wells, and they are permitted. She has been very busy with illness in family and working too; what is the going bonus rate there and will she probably be able to get a quarter? They would include her as she spoke with them quite some time ago.

Pads are placed in specific locations based on section lines. An operator will not site a drilling pad just anywhere based of the desires of the surface owner. They can't just place it anywhere.

Figure out where any lines run close to you land and then look at the least productive 5 acres for trees . Send them a note you think this is the best area for the pad. Smart money would have them put in the drive for pad that you can use later to clear the timber. If they have a need for something be nice and give it to them for a price.

Katie,
I posted this response to your reply about how gas is sold, over in my discussion on the main board. When you have some time, would you mind digging up the answers? Thanks.

I am still trying to understand your explanation, so I'll ask some questions... You say, "CEMI pays Chesapeake the weighted average re-sale price..." Can you elaborate here?

1. To whom does CEMI sell the gas?
2. How is the price that CEMI sells the gas determined?
3. What does "weighted average" mean?

Then you go on to say, "gas contracts are more individual to a well or lease connection based on field condition." What does this mean? I don't understand this sentence.

Any insight you can provide to me, and the others who are interested in this topic, would be really helpful. Again, we thank you for stepping in and helping us all.

Wow, I guess you sure do want to know a timeline! A tree farm's a pretty big endeavor. Call our Royalty Owner Contact Center at 1-877-CHK-1GAS, and a Royalty Owner Specialist can give you a general idea of planned drilling. Just keep in mind the schedule is very fluid and changes often.

Keep me updated and good luck with the tree farm!

Burk Royalty has farmed out the East Stockman Prospect to Chesapeake. Do you know what the plans are in the prospect for drilling? The timeline is especially interesting. I am a land owner and mineral owner in the prospect and am considering starting a tree farm on some of the land. I don't want to go into the costs of such, then have to negotiate the costs of a pad in the middle of the tree farm. If I knew the timeline for drilling out the area, things would be less complicated and less expensive.
