Feb. 26: Chesapeake Energy announces plan to reorganize its Eastern Division operation in Charleston, West Virginia ... to reorganize its Charleston, West Virginia-based Eastern Division from a regional corporate headquarters to a regional field office. As a result, Chesapeake will consolidate the management of its Eastern Division land, legal, accounting, information technology, geoscience and engineering departments into the company's corporate offices in Oklahoma City. Field operations will not be affected. Crude oil prices surged on Feb. 26 ..... ending higher by $2.65 to $45.15 while, natural gas finished up 4.1 cents to $4. 07.


Feb. 25: Light sweet crude rose $2.54 or 6.36% higher on Feb. 25, 2009 to settle at $42.50 a barrel after reaching an intraday high of $42.78 earlier in the trading session; natural gas closed down 17cents to finish at 4.03 for April delivery on the NYM.

Feb. 13: Crude oil closed at $37.45; natural gas closed at $4.435.

Feb. 10: The Obama Economic Rescue Plan and bank bailout plans were announced today; crude oil fell $1.80 to $37.64, natural gas lost 27.2 cents to finish at $4.54. DJIA fell 381.99 points, or 4.62 percent, to 7,888.88.

Feb. 4: Crude oil fell 38 cents to $40.30; natural gas ended higher by 9.8 cents to close at $4.591. Recession fears and over supplies are holding prices down in early Feb. 2009.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
