The American Natural Gas Alliance is pointing to a recent studythat gives credit for 3 million jobs to the natural gas industry. A quote from their press release, "The influence of the natural gas industry on the economy is spread throughout the continental United States.... In 2008, more than 30 states had at least 10,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs related to natural gas.”

Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank, conducted a panel on Cap and Trade: Comparing Cost Estimates. The only one that didn't usher me into a blissful nap was Harry Alford, Chief Executive Officer of the National Black Chamber of Commerce. Alford made a decent case that the current version of climate change legislation (Waxman-Markey), as passed in the House, could adversely effect 86% of our African-American population. Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
