What are the Big Players Saying about our Shale?

Developing Unconventional Gas Conference
April 7, 2009, Fort Worth, TX
By: Austin Eudaly

Andy Hopwood, Vice President of BP America Inc., stood on stage in front of over 500 Oil and Gas Professionals early this morning at the Omni Hotel in downtown Fort Worth. With a hint of sarcasm he stated, “Well, if you were here at the 2008 DUG conference last April…..you know nothing much has changed in the oil and gas industry over the past year.” The crowd had a good laugh at this understatement to commence the 2009 Developing Unconventional Gas (DUG) Conference.

In a year that has seen oil and gas prices soar to record highs and dive to near devastating lows, it has left both petroleum industry experts and mineral owners alike scratching their heads in disbelief. I was fortunate enough to attend the DUG conference today in hopes of getting a firsthand account of what is currently happening (and not happening) in the unconventional gas plays across North America. Keith, aka Haynesville, has asked me to give a detailed report on some of the highlights and current attitudes that were prevalent among attendees at today’s conference. Hopefully, I can provide a clear picture of what is currently happening in the oil and gas industry for all you members on Go Haynesville Shale.com.

Seeing it is now half past midnight here in Dallas, unfortunately I’ll have to be brief, as I have another full day of seminars beginning at 8 am tomorrow. I plan on providing a full run down on all the key speakers and topics covered in the conference in the next day or two though. Please stay tuned.

A few quick highlights from today’s talks:

1. Today’s major cost hurdles of unconventional gas plays
2. The main cause(s) of the fall of natural gas prices
3. What has to happen for the natural gas industry to get back to being “healthy”
4. How technology is opening up production across the board
5. The current U.S. gas glut: The #1 way to stop it
6. Tom Gardner’s 2009 message to the E&P Industry: “Stay alive until 2010”
7. Who is king? Marcellus, Haynesville or the Barnett Shale.
8. Haynesville Shale gas well life expectancies
9. BP’s Haynesville position: where, when, how?
10. Obama’s proposed tax increases on the Energy Industry: A bad idea….unless your goal is to increase imports from our enemies in the Middle East

Best,

P.S. Also, if you have a question that you would like me to ask any of the panelists tomorrow, please feel free to send me a text/ email at the contact information given above. I will do my best to get it answered for you.

Skip ... Jay ... wait ... I think TD & I were about to break out into our traditional Kum Bay Ah chorus. lol As for long hair, recently had a discussion about that cell phone/wireless commercial with the 2 young kids riding a tandem bike ... did anyone catch the visual joke about the girl's long hair/

TD - Is there a "way" that anyone is "supposed" to look like? "Gimme it down the there ... shoulder length and shaggy ... " BTW, I heard there is currently a revival of "Hair" being produced again.

Hae a good evening - :0)

The Cherokee need to look out for their ass. And the long hair is appropriate. I am now moving. Coming, Jay?

I like all friendly dogs Skip, its the ones that want to bite my ass that I don't care to much for but I can still respect their space.

Sesport, at present I am one of them "Long Haired Hippy Types" at least I was told that in the grocery store yesterday. When it gets hot I will cut it all off and go back to the redneck mode. I have big hair at present but thats the way it goes with the seasons of the year. It keeps my head warm in the winter and some would think that that is what a Cherokee needs to look like. Like Ahmed, I could get pissed at white folks burning my grandmothers house but what good does it do, our country could have killed all of Ahmed's family for no reason by some mistake. Until I know the truth I will never be the one that cast stones. "Come on people smile on your brother everybody get together and love one another right now".

Jay and Skip you may want to post under the more ligit thread above Austin's picture on the front page. I feel this thread has gone way out of kilter.

Jay. Has anyone ever defined "the core" to your satisfaction? As development stands today.

"Come together ... right now..." Here we go, TD. LOL I don't know what you're referring to above, maybe we should break out into "All Ya Need Is Love" Okay, I'll stop as this is serious material.

I got here because I saw Pat Jacks post here in the left collum, Pat was getting off subject and I thought that I would comment back, but didn't want to stear it off more. Then I saw where Ahmed Amin had posted and had saw his post before where some labeled him a terrorist so I thought I would read it, then things got on to dogs and anyway. I don't know that many people from the Mid East so I can't make a call on who is a terrorist by the way they talk. He seemed a nice enough person, he may just view Americans from what he has heard from others, me I don't know. I just ain't gonna get in some pissin contest with no one unless they start something with me personally or with one of my friends and it would have to be some blatant language that I could understand. I would have to know Ahmed better before I could make a call on what he is or what his intensions are.

I found the difference. This title ends with " ... " and the other ends with "?"
