thanks for responding to me, much-appreciated.
i'd welcome the opportunity to send you a copy of the letter offer we received, toward picking your brain a bit, including any suggestion you might be able to provide re somebody (e.g., oil and gas lawyer) who might be able to assist our family in working through this.
assuming you're open to that, send me a quick e-mail (at dctalbott@eastmansmith.com), and i'll send you what i have.
and again, thanks for your assistance here.
Actually my in-laws have some land in that area. What is weird about what I heard is that my source heard it from two separate poeple on separate occasions. Just can't wait to hear something. Could be huge for that area. I think that my in-laws land is set to be drilled by the end of the year. I think!?
Dang, you hit with some great news. You can be sure I will take up your offer for help. I live in Central TX now just out side Fort Hood TX. Little hard to get up to Shelby County so would like to have a few short cuts on getting info. J Beck
David,
Thanks for the note. Until recently we thought that our only interest in Shelby was in Emily Irish, which touches the SE corner of Richards. As I mentioned earlier, we were advised we also had a small interest in the Richards/Gainer and gave Devon a 2yr lease w/no kicker. Most of my family's holdings are in Panola, but in the past also included Shelby as they were from the Timpson area. My understanding is that they sold all their interest in Shelby many years ago, keeping Panola as it was more promising, but apparently a few small tracts were missed. Over the years we have had little or no interest from anyone about these tracts in Shelby, other than the Emily Irish piece being leased by Burke for next to nothing some time ago, and it (lease) expires next month. Hope this is of some help and of course we would all like to see some activity in that "forgotten" corner of the County.
Best Regards,
John Cooke
Thanks for the info provided. The land in San Agustine was leased by my mother back in the 70's and nothing came of it back then. I always knew of the land , but having no contact with the estranged part of my family I only had rumors to go on. Now thanks to you I have a better idea of the location of the family land. I don't think I personally will ever benefit much from it due to my age and health, however I do have hopes for my children and grand-son due in April. I will inform my daughters more now on the McDonald side of my family.
Not long ago Keith sent me a royalty calculator that he was considering adding to the site and asked for my opinion. It was terrible. And after pointing out some obvious and basic flaws, Keith agreed and rejected it. I suggest that you contact him to see if he might give yours a permanent place on the Main Page. After rigorous peer review, of course! LOL!
My husband actually inherited the mineral rights. He inherited from his Grandmother Jesse H. Smith and she was married to Wiley Burk Smith. Who knows ya'll could be related. Thanks again for your help.
This is all new to me so I thank you for advice. I was not even aware one could negotiate a lease until I read the posts. This is a great forum for learning and it appears I will need to seek legal representation as well.

GOT MESSAGE RE: DEVON AND SHELBY..I HAVE NO CURRENT IDEA ALTHOUGH THE SURVEY YOU MENTIONED NOT SURROUNDED AS OF YET BY POSITIVE DRILLING RESULTS AND DEVON ALREADY LEASED A LOT IN THE SURVEY

I am not working on that crew but what I understand the prospect includes the Town of Mamou and some stuff to the North.
