I am new to the site, I own some land and have started to receive interest in leasing. The first thing I need to do is get a handle on the boundary and location of my properties. Where would I be able to access the survey maps such as William Humphries A-138? Also, is there a place where I can track the location of leasing, drilling and study activity via an online map or database?

This is the GIS Map on the Railroad Commission website. Scroll down on the right to Survey/Abstract and click. A new window will open. You can do a survey search by typing the name of the survey (last name only) or by abstract number. Click on your choice in the results and it will zoom in on the survey. Oh, and you have to choose your county (top left in the search window).
survey 137 and 138 shelby= shown as Cottle, GW survey--so leases below shown in 137/138 survey
Anskey,

RBH is correct. Any chance you have the wrong survey number?

Anskey,
What they are trying to say, i think, is that the W Humphreys is in San Augustine County, this post you have put in the Shelby County section. A-137 in Shelby is Cottle survey. I hope you are in the A-138 in SA cnty as that is about 2 miles from the massive Kardell well. The map jffreel put above this post is a picture of that survey in SA cnty. The Texas railraod comm GIS viewfider map will tell you all this until your time runs out ( usually about 10-15 minutes ) then you have to start all over. At first it's confusing, but even I figured it out finally. If you are indeed in Shelby, don't worry, a very good area as well.
Your right, I posted this under the wrong county. This info has been helpful though since I do have some land in Shelby. If I wanted further breakdown of the surveys to include property boundaries, where would I be able to find this? Thanks all for your help.
If you zoom in on the GIS it will not break down property lines for you. It may well be worth it to hire a survey co. to determine your lines. On some older properties it can be very trickey as the lines were drawn up long ago, and you may see things like " from the old Smith windmill to the large rock on the west side". I'm not kidding at all. Also, your time will be well spent on this great website. At first a lot of what is said will be Greek, but as you learn it will become more clear. You probably are going to need a good attorney too. These are all good problems, and as said, you are very close to the largest well to date in the Haynesville Shale. I would not consider leasing at all until you become very, very informed. Remember there are no stupid questions here. See you over in the SA section.
Anskey, contact the appraisal district office in your county of interest. They will advise you as to what they can do re: ownership map copies.
Where exactly is the Kardell well? I see a bunch of wells in San Augustine West, but not sure if one of these is the Kardell well.
1.5 miles directly East of San Augustine.

Here's the link to the W-1:
http://webapps.rrc.state.tx.us/DP/drillDownQueryAction.do?fromPubli...

If you open that page you can click on the MAP button in the API# field and it will open up a seperate page for the GIS Map section of the Railroad Commission site.
after you click on the map, click zoom out 1.5x, then hit the arrow not straight up, but the one to the right (2:00 position) of it 3 times and there you are, W Humphreys. if you pull down map tools and put it on "identify wells" when you click on the well you will start seeing info and can further click on things from there. If you zoom out more you will loose some up close detail, but will see the bigger picture. you are by the huge well, very close, and good for you. now come see us in the San Augustine section, you need to meet cheerleader! she will tell you your minerals are worth up to $50,000 per acre + 25 % royalty, and she may not be too far off.
