Reasons:
1. It will make your royalties worth more
2. It will give gas companies incentive to drill more and expand production
3. CNG is cheaper than gasoline
4. CNG is much cleaner than gasoline combustable engine
5. We have to wean ourselves from middle east oil
6. The north LA economy will explode

I'm sure there are others. By no means am I a liberal but this is one "green" proposal that I support. I'm sick of our country sending billions of dollars to the middle east so they can produce more Osamas.

Write your representatives. I did.

I'm all for reducing the foreign oil dependence that most countries have. Good post!
Imagine if those billions of dollars stayed here in the US/LA/North Louisiana!
Do you think this dependence could also be reduced by a return to driving more economical cars? Does everyone have to drive an extra-large SUV to take kids to & from school, go to the office, go get their nails done? Couldn't we decrease dependdnce by improving public transportation? Does every child in a family have to get their own vehicle the minute they have a driver's license, and make that one of those super-sized SUV's too? I'm not saying everyone is like this, just seems there are an awful lot of them.

I remember when my family had one car. My mother drove my father to work, then she would do her errands AND get us to after school activities. She usually car-pooled with other parents to get that done. Then she would pick my dad up after work.

I'm not against developing these NG resources either, but proceed with caution. There are other ways to reduce our oil dependency on the middle east.
the point is that you can convert a SUV to a naturl gas engine and save money. You get better money/milegae ratio. I am thinking of converting my yukon, does anyone know if the dealerships are doing this?

does anyone know how to get the gas pump installed in your house? I know that the new civics coem with a PHIL system that sits in your garage and can fill you tank over night from the natural gas in the pipes at your home. Any research on this?
One must also take into account that these plastic water bottles we love to drink from also requires barrels of oil to produce. It's not just automobiles. We must also recycle to reduce the foreign oil dependence.
Mom, believe or not most of the raw material for plastics comes from natural gas (ethane). I still concur we should conserve all natural resources and recycle where possible.
"Do you think this dependence could also be reduced by a return to driving more economical cars?"

Sure economical cars will bring down demand and bring down prices but the cycle will just continue. Remember in the 80s when everyone went from the 16ft boxes to the little hatchbacks to save gas. It worked and prices dropped eventually but it wasn't 20 years later that we have the same problem with SUVs. If we all started driving smart cars tomorrow gas prices would fall and you would probably get $1.00 gallon gas again for 5-6 years until everyone started driving the latest gas guzzling trend vehicle and gas would do the same thing. Another wild card in the equation is the new Asia. If you have 500 million new vehicles on the road you are going to have increased demand which will decrease supply and drive up prices.

"Couldn't we decrease dependdnce by improving public transportation?"
To a degree but you have the same problems as above. Also public transportation would only work in 5-6 large metro areas in this country because we are so spread out. It would never be economical to have mass public transportation in a state like LA.

"Does every child in a family have to get their own vehicle the minute they have a driver's license, and make that one of those super-sized SUV's too? I'm not saying everyone is like this, just seems there are an awful lot of them."
That's a freedom of choice. As long as they can afford the SUV or vehicle for their 16 yo then they can drive it and buy it. That brings up another point in that Americans love their vehicles. You talk about you parents car pooling in the past tense so it seems as soon as they could they got two cars. If people are going to do it anyway why not give them a choice between a dirty, expensive, middle east funding gasoline burner vs. a clean, made in the USA, cheaper CNG vehicle?

"reduce our oil dependency on the middle east"
I don't want to reduce dependence. I want to end it and the only way to do that is to give people the choice. I'm not saying get rid of all gasoline vehicles I'm just saying give people a choice. Gasoline has a monopoly and it's impossible for anyone else to get in the market without a catalyst such as legislative action. The free market would remain where people could choose middle east oil or US CNG. I would choose CNG if the option were available.
North LA, driving electric hybrids also increases the demand for natural gas and reduces the need for oil imports.
True, but nowhere close to where CNG vehicles would.
When are the auto makers going to make a fuel efficient vehicle that aging drivers can get in and out of without having to fall into or climb out of? I've owned those small cars all my life but they are getting to be a pain to get in and out of!
