Section Checks?

Can some one spell out what a section check is and why a person would get one?...We currently are in a section in the Haynesville that CHK sent out letters too all the people in this section and request us to sign and return with in a week to receive a Section check?...is this the same as the signed mineral rights lease for our property...

Dijimison, are sure the royalty is not "1/6" which is ~ 16.7%? That was a lot more prevalent at that time.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
