I knew my family had originally come to Texas and settled in San Augustine,TX., but thru years of that side of the family going thru divorce and fact that I never knew that side of family. Since, I got contacted by landman and it was found I was an heir to the mineral rights to land in San Augustine it came to me that it would be nice to know where the old family land was. Help  in pointing me the direction would be nice. Lease refers to 862 acres ,but I don't know if it is north south ,east or west. All I recall of family talk is that my great grand mother sold the surface but retained mineral right back around 1917

does the lease say which surveys the 862 acres is in? or give any detail of legal description of the acreage?
pay as you go website--register on-line and do search of the heirs:

www.countyrecords.com
This is what I see on the bonus check
862acres of land more or less,out of the Williams Clark,A-83, John Howard, A-130,J .A. Brooks, A-65 & E.P. Richie,A-238

I think this is what you refered to, looks like a land description to me
Best info on location is to ask the landsman who desires to lease your minerals to give you copy of map that shows where you parcel is located in the survey that matches the legal discription of the land. Ask for copy of run sheet (This is title run of minerals as it change hands thru the years with infomation on # net minerals acres you have as it was split up in Wills of your heirs) Then to get complete info of contingency property around you and what's going on re: drilling, wells in production, etc then go to RRC of Texas web site and look at GIS Map viewer.
looks like:
HICKORY HOLLOW SUB. /R.T. WILLIAMS Abstract-359 and
RICHIE, E.P. abstract-? 384.5 acres
Isn't that a little ways South of 103 and West of 147?
I have no idea--just got on countyrecords.com and typed in Menville name for John
It's just east of Jackson Hill Park & north of 147 at lakes edge
the net is showing 17.454 acres..but these are divided up among 4 parcels but the net maybe per value to each tract some higher some lower.the way I calculate it is about 2% of the total 862 acres. So if they do drill on the 862 acres will I recieve a royalty if anything is produced? I got 1000.00 per acre and 1/4 royality. I guess that seemed fair.
Some very important news to share : (1) how long was your lease for? - (& can they renew the lease for an additional --- years -) and (2) Who did you lease to? - (should be right after your name on the 1st page -- "Lessee").

THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Also, I thought I had a deal in extreem S. Shelby Co. w/ Petrohawk & they just disappeared. Anybody else?
the lease was for 3 years with the right to option for 2 more years//Leased to cabot oil and gas (COG)
GoRicky..can you disclose where and when...good to know. Do see they are very active in Nacogdoches in their JV with EOG
where + San Agustine..check above I posted tracts as to where..still not sure of exact location with in county ,,but I am getting a feeling it is some where close to Shelby county border..I could be wrong.. I signed and returned lease papers on 02/01/2010..I once went to San Agustine to do a little family history search and a local refered me to an area called McDonald hill..being unfamiliar with area .Idid not find it but I think it was north of City of San Augustine..My mother was a McDonald, My grand-father was William McDonald born in San Augustine in early 1900's, He and my grand-mother divorced in 1934, and I never got to know him nor that side of family.
