A friend, that has over 100 acres near Crosset, has been contacted by Chesapeake interested in leasing his property. He is interested in finding out what the going rate is for signing bonuses and royalties in that area. I am not sure of how deep they are shooting for or even if the Haynesville shale is even in play there, but would appreciate any information I can get for him. He'll be meeting with them soon. Thanks

There is no Haynesville Shale in south Arkansas as the formation is Sand in that area. All the recent development activity along the AR./LA. state line is Smackover related specifically the Brown Dense. There are numerous discussion threads in the group pages. I appreciate the information Skip, thanks.
Skip,
Thank you for your info. I have land in Union Parish. I am blessed to be a part of all this, thank you for your knowledge and care .

I live in the El Dorado area but have two parcels of mineral interest in western Union County near Hwy 82 and the Columbia County line. The offers that I have heard about are $100 to $175 and 3/16 royalty. There has been a test well on Plum Creek land in the eastern end of Union County, S/SE of Strong, but info has been very tight about this well. Us 82 seems to sort of be the northern edge of interest but have heard of offers near Mt Holly and Libson, both north of 82. The lower Smackover called the brown dense is said to be the formation of interest. The brown dense has never been produced in Arkansas.
Thanks for the info, this is very helpful Gary Thanks again
Gary,
I live in Branson now formerly from Strong. Sometimes long distance is a little
harder to keep up with "whats happening" back home. Could you give the legal
description on well drilled sse of Strong?
Jim
Jim.
On the AGOC weekly report for 08-28-09 shows permitted to 9100 feet and on the report for 09-25-09 shows the permit for 9011 feet. The well # is 42337, the description is 27-19S-17W, and is on Plum Creek Timber land. I am not certain that this is the well that the rumors keep referring to as the Strong test well. I have heard that it has been P&A but have not seem it on any AOGC weekly report. I have also heard that it was capped. No reports of results have been passed on the grapevine.

Jim,
I should have added that this is the deepest permitted well that I found on the AOGC reports for Union County since mid-2009. The 9000+ depth should be the bottom of the Smackover for that area. Smackover wells in Union County are not that deep.
Gary,
How does your friend know that it is Chesapeake that contacted him about leasing? I'm just curious, they usually have a "front" company in a new area like this.
Not this time, from what he's told me they contacted him, and have arranged a meeting at one of their offices up there somewhere, and made it clear that his expenses would be covered. He was told that they had been attempting to "track him down for a while".
From the AOGC Drilling Permit Report 6/18/2010 -- Can someone tell me the general location of this well -- ie, Crosset? Hamburg?

This well n/nw of Crossett is not all that far (not sure of the miles) from the well s/se of Strong in Union County. The permits shows Goldston Oil Corporation as the operator for both wells. The Strong well shows to have been P&A on the AOGC report of 09/25/2009. Internet info on Goldston shows that they only drill about a dozen wells per year. I wonder why they would do another brown dense well in the same general area near the Ouachita/Saline rivers area of S AR with the first well being P&A? I know P&A wells are not always dry, just not enough show to be commerical.
