My family owns land in Clairborne parish.  How can we find out what is happening on the land.  I've checked Sonis lite and can't understand if there drilling, drilled in the past or drilling now.  We haven't signed anything or received any $$.  We own land in Clairborne Parish, section 001, township 22N, Range 6W and section 006, township 22N, range 05W.  How can I determine if there is oil or minerals or timber there?

There is a old producing well in section 1 22n 6w 166966 buckner ra sub:usa nothing is permited in either sections. The Claiborne Parish group may be more help.
What does that mean? Who applies for a permit? If the land is producing oil, who benefits? Thank you so much, any info is appreciated
"nothing is permitted" means no one has applied for and received a "permit." A permit is the legal document from the state that allows a well to be drilled.

You may or may not own the mineral rights. If you own the mineral rights, in theory, no one can produce oil or gas from your land without paying you.

It's possible that someone who owned the land before you sold the land and retained the mineral rights.

How long have you owned the land? How many acres?
I have probate papers from 1957 but I understand this land has been in the family since the mid 1800's. There is 50 acres. The land was inherited when many of the siblings were children and as far as we know, has just been "sitting there".

Have you had offer to lease? I know that there is one producing well in your section. Apparently your land is not in the unit that the well is in. I do know that there has been some recent leasing in that area. However, I am not intimately knowledgeable about that area, or the Mt. Sinai Field. I would suggest that you read posting by Anne C under heading "Help! I am a Newbie" under clueless about shale.
It appears to me that her land is about 2 or 3 miles from yours. You can benefit from advice given to Anne by some very knowledgeable people. I suggest you read these before taking any kind of actions. Hope this is helpful.

How can I know if a well in producing in our section? Can someone other then the family authorize it? Where would the royaties be sent? I have the exact location of the land:

Unfortunately, it's complicated.

Is your land all in STR 1-22-6? The "sw1/4 of NE 1/4" would seem to indicate land in 1-22-6.

This producing well in 1-6-22 is in unit "Brucker RA SUB," which covers the east half of 1-22-6. This is a producing well, so presumably the land in 1-22-6 would have been leased when the well was drilled in 1980.

Based upon Mac's comments and your description of property it does appear that your land may be in a producing unit. If so, then unit must consist of 320 acres. My guess would have been that unit would normally be in 160 acres for this formation. But, this is just a guess and is of little importance.

As for authorization to to drill in any given unit; the owner of a valid lease can drill without notification to landowner. This is usually the case, except for the landowner who owns the land upon which well is drilled. Even without a valid lease on 100% of acreage in the unit an operator may drill a well in the unit if they cannot locate landowner or cannot reach agreement on lease terms. This happens fairly often, but usually involves very small acreage. In the event that well is drilled, and operator cannot locate landowners their share of revenue is placed in escrow for such owners.

It seems to me that you need to have someone go to courthouse in Homer to check lease history on this land, and then go on Sonris to verify production history of any existing production unit(s) which may underlie your property.

Looks to me like none of your land is in 1-22-6. The description above sounds like your land is in 6-22-5.

Do you agree that all your land is in section 6? Specifically, Section 6, Township 22 N North, Range 5 West?

Your first post indicated some land in 1-22-6, but I don't see that in your description.

From what I can decipher here, It looks like there is no working well in your section/unit.

You may have gotten the note from Hargrove etc. in 1980 because there were forming a unit in the next section (1-22-6) and they have to notify nearby landowners, even if they aren't in the unit.

However, I'm just some anonymous guy you met on a bulletin board, check it out yourself.

It appears that that your land is in S6-T22N-R5W and is in the Buckner RA SUC unit. SONRIS does not show any producing well in that section or unit.

The Hargrove letter only refers to S1-T22N-R6W as defining the Buckner sands, it does not describe any land in that section that you might own.

I suggest you get legal advice as it appears you own 94 acres in S6-T22N-R5W.
