Christine, I did not receive the letter you are speaking of but I did receive one similar to it pertaining to my Section, Township, and Range in DeSoto Parish in April 2008. I don't know how familiar you are with the exploration process but the Pre-Application notice that you received should be based on a fairly standard form that is sent to landowners in a section to let them know that some oil or gas producer is seeking permission from the State of LA to force pool and unitize their particular section.

This is an indication that the company is interested in or is already drilling a well in that section; state codes require that the company partition the state and make notice to all landowners involved in the desired section. This is intended to inform you and your neighbors that there will be a public meeting to discuss this action and you,as a landowner in the section have a right to attend the meeting to gather information and voice any questions or concerns you may have. If there are landowners in the section that have not leased their land, this lets them know that drilling and production is a possiblity in their section. If they continue to go unleased, they will be "force pooled" which refers to being placed into a pool of unleased owners, forced by the State's approval of the request and those landowners will eventually share in the pool of revenues that are produced from their section.

Landowners that are not under a lease have the ability and right to seek and sign a lease with the producer if they desire to do that or they can wait until the well is drilled and seek to participate as an unleased landowner.
Rick~ Thank you so much for taking the time to type this very detailed information.
Your explanation has been very helpful. As you probably know, you only have 14 days
to respond.
Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
